History of the Internet

The Internet today has been used in so many ways like for watching videos and looking up information. Before the Internet came official on January 1,1983, the Internet started in the 1960s as a way for government researchers to share information. The original intent of the internet being invented was for military purposes, and then expanded to the purpose of communication among government researchers. When the internet came official networks could now be connected by a universal language which allowed them to connect to other devices internationally. As we look back on what they used to access the Internet is they used Computers that were large and immobile and in order to make use of information one had to either travel to the site of the computer, but today we have smaller devices like Cellular devices and Tablets that can send information wirelessly.

History of Web Browsers

A web browser is a is a software application for retrieving information resources on the World Wide Web. Before the web browsers we know today, there were the first browsers, which are no longer in use or have highly evolved. In 1990 the first browser ever created was by Director Tim Berners-Lee, Unlike today, this was the only browser and the only way to access the web. In the year of 1993 a man named Mosaic was the first person to allow images on the internet.  As of today we have 4 browsers and they are Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, and Safari.

Social Networking  

A social networking service or known as social media is an online platform which people use to build relationships with other people who share similar personal information to make a personal connection. Social networking services may vary in format and the number of features like in either in laptops, smartphones and tablets. A social-network service can provide a more individual-centered service whereas community services are more group centered. When social media was created by Samuel Morse’s first telegraph in 1844 it was not used by internet but by telegraphs. As Technology progresses, we figure out more ways to be able to communicate more efficiently.  

Email

In 1965 the first email was found on computers in a program called “MAILBOX”. Users of computers could leave messages with this program on computers and other users would see the messages the next time they logged on to the computer. By the 1980’s, Internet Service Providers had begun connecting people around the world by using email sites as popups.  For many new internet users, electronic mail was the first practical application of this exciting invention. By 1993 internet use had become more widespread ad emails started to become more popular.  By the mid-2000s companies like AOL, Hotmail and Yahoo shaped the internet and email landscape and exposed a bigger audience to benefit the World Wide Web. As of today, we communicate more through via email than we do by regular mail because of quicker responses.

History of Wiki and Blogs

A wiki is a collaborative Web site which content can be edited by anyone that has access to it. The best example of a wiki website is Wikipedia.  Wiki websites can be used as a source for obtaining information, but we must remember that some of the information might not be accurate because it probably has been edited. Another related Web information sharing technology is what we call a blog. A blog is a Web site that contains dated entries in reverse chronological order about a topic. Blogs can be written by one person or a group of writers. Even though blogs engage people in knowledge sharing, they often attract a large group of readers.  Since Blogs and Wiki websites have similar idea, we need to remember some information might not always be accurate.

History of Podcasts and Web Cast

Podcasting’s is about creating content for an audience that listens to what they want when they want. Users can listen to podcasts on their computer by using Windows Media Player.  Podcasts describes many educational applications of podcasting such as Recordings of lectures, audio recordings and Downloadable libraries.  Podcasts always use Really Simple Syndication, which is a builtin feature in a windows computer.

History of Streaming Media

The way media is being consumed by people has been changing rapidly. More people in 2020 are relying on a tablet or smartphone to watch movies and listen to music. This change in technology is just one of many in the history of streaming media. When we think about streaming media now, we think about Internet-based services such as Netflix or Pandora, but, there are facets of all media that are streamed to the consumer. When the media spared the online streaming in the early 2000s the way people watch tv started to eliminate.
